In 1995 Pottstown Plating received the Pennsylvania Governors Environmental
Excellence Award for outstanding achievement in this field. A photograph of
the presentation with Governor Tom Ridge is shown. Pottstown Plating was the
first job shop electroplater to receive this prestigious honor.
Our goal was to reduce our wastes by 80%.. We achieved this by recycling rinse
streams, eliminating cyanide cadmium plating, and replacing hexavalent chrome
with trivalent chrome. The results were a reduction of rinse waters from 250,000
gallons per day to 100,000 gallons per day, and hazardous waste generation was
reduced from 640 tons per year to less than 200 tons per year. This part
of our business is never-ending, and we continue to strive for further
advancements in this vital area.
